It is a holy site that is revered throughout the entirety of India and may be found in the lower sections of the Lohit River. A holy dip in the sacred kund, which is said to wash away one’s sins, draws in thousands upon thousands of pilgrims during the colder months of the year, particularly on the day that is celebrated as Makar Sankranti. The folks who live around here say there’s a mythological tale that explains how this stunning location came to be.

It is believed that Lord Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, used his axe to decapitate his mother Renuka at the command of his father, Rishi Jamadagni. The fact that he had already committed one of the gravest offenses possible, namely murdering one’s own mother, caused the axe to become lodged in his grasp. His father, happy with his obedience, made the decision to grant him a favor, for which he begged that his mother be brought back to life. His request was granted.
