The Origins of Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary
The town of Vedanthangal, often known as “the hamlet of the hunters,” got its name due of its reputation as a fantastic hunting area. Throughout the eighteenth century, local lords and monarchs frequented the area for the hunting of native and migratory birds. Because of the direct correlation between bird populations and agricultural output, local villagers have long held the view that safeguarding birds is a moral and economic imperative.
