The history of the Siddhivinayak Temple may be traced back to the year 1801, when a man called Laxman Vithu constructed the temple for the first time. Deubai Patil, a wealthy lady who did not have any children of her own, provided the funding for the building of the temple with the hope that Lord Ganesha may satisfy the desires of other women who do not yet have any children of their own.
The first temple was a modest brick building that was about square feet in size and measured 3.6 metres by 3.6 metres. The construction was embellished with a shikhara in the form of a dome, and inside of it was a home for a Ganapati statue carved out of black stone. This idol has been preserved till modern times.

Ramakrishna Jambhekar Maharaj is said to have done this as per the advice of his guru. The sage Swami Samarth said that after 21 years, there will be a Mandar tree growing in the location where the two idols had been buried. A representation of Svayambhu Ganesha was carved onto the tree’s branches.
