History Of The Museum
DBCIC encompasses the Museum (Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures). DBCIC includes Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous Cultures, Research, Publishing, and Multimedia Knowledge-Sharing.
After a lengthy absence, the Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC) reopened in 1976, inspiring the DBCIC and Museum. SHTC was blessed to have Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel SDB as its Principal from 1976 to 1987 and as a lecturer from 1987 to 2014. Over four decades in Shillong were productive, artistic, and vibrant. Two things stand out throughout Fr. Sebastian’s fruitful and busy years. He first dedicated himself to theologically forming priestly aspirants. Second, Fr. Sebastian made steps to give SHTC a mission and missiological orientation.
First, the Indian Missiological Review was founded in 1979 (now Mission Today); second, the Otto Hopfenmueller Library was built with over one lakh volumes; third, the faculty of Missiology was founded in the 1980s; and fourth, the Anthropological and Cultural Museum was founded (today known as Don Bosco Museum).
